    Program Description

    Are you ready to be a part of one of the largest cutting edge industries?

    Imagine yourself using the latest diagnostic scan tools, computer repair software, and the newest tools and equipment while learning to diagnose and repair vehicles. That's what your experience at LRATC will look like as you gain the skills required to pursue an exciting new career in the Automotive Industry.

    Students learn the fundamentals of various vehicle systems including brakes, steering and suspension, engine management, vehicle drivability, dive lines, and axles. Students will be taught the theory and will apply those concepts to practical tasks in our modern facility.

    Prerequisites and Helpful Skills

    • High school students have completed Grade 10 and Post-secondary students have completed Grade 12.
      • Applicants not meeting the entrance requirements may be accepted as mature students. Skills assessment may be required.
    • Mechanical aptitude and manual dexterity
    • Good problem-solving skills
    • Ability to follow schedules and meet deadlines

    Internship

    Our accredited program concludes with a four week work practicum where students have the opportunity to showcase their newly acquired skills in dealerships and independent repair facilities.

    Certification

    LRATC will award certificates to students who successfully complete all requirements of this eight-credit program.

    Apprenticeship Opportunities

    The Automotive Technology program at LRATC is accredited by Apprenticeship Manitoba under the trade of Automotive Service Technician. To receive credit for Level 1 in-school Technical Training and a time credit of 900 hours, students must:

    • write the Provincial Automotive Service Technician Level 1 Exam with a minimum of 70%.
    • successfully complete the Automotive Technology  program at ATC                                                                      
    • maintain a minimum 70% average in both theory and practical
    • gain employment and register as apprentices within two years of graduating from the program.

    Application Fee

    $20 (nil for high school students)

    Tuition

    NO COST (high school students)
    $2,750 per semester, $5,500 full program

    Student Fee

    $25 per semester

    Textbook Fee

    $100 (refundable)

    CreditsPart 1 - 4 credits, Part 2 - 4 credits

    Additional Costs

    $100 for coveralls, safety glasses, and work light.  $50 for First Aid Course.  Steel toed safety boots are required.
